Centennial will soon be home to the nearly 20,000 square foot Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of Rockies on a 4.3 Acre property on South Potomac Street. The City Council gave final approval on Decemeber 7 to construction plans for the 50 foot tall building that is expected to largest Hindu Center in Denver Metro Area. The expansive Center, whose plans call for traditional and ornate Indian Architecture, will be located in an area of north Arapahoe County Justice Center and Denver Broncos training Center. Before the council's unanimous vote approving the center, District 4 council member Ron Weidmann said the news center would provide an opportunity for cultural exchange in Centennial. "I'd like for us to be involved with the temple, if possible, as a city. I think it's good to have diversity, " he said. Mayor Randy Pye echoed Weidmann's  comments, making reference to India's unofficial national sport. "You have a very strong Indian community that's very supportive of the city," he said. "Now, if we could just get a Cricket team here." The Hindu community conducted a blessing ceremony on the property several years ago. Construction of the temple is expected to begin next year.
